Image Magick is the creation of web innovator, John Cristy, a man committed to the ideal of freely available services on the world wide web.

An official Image Magick Message Board is provided for help and to report problems. Registering is required to post in the Magick Studio Forum.

Image Magick Studio is currently hosted at these servers. If one is not working satisfactorily, try another.

    How to Composite with ImageMagick

  • Put the URL of the image you want to use as the background (base) in the text field where it asks for the URL and hit the view button. The base may be a gif or jpeg, a picture, solid color or transparent gif.

  • On the next page you will see your image. Of course if you are compositing on a clear gif you will not see the image.

  • If the image first needs resizing, click the Resize tab in the menu array at the top of the page and size the image to your needs. Resizing solid color and clear gifs to be used as bases for compositing is common.

When the image is properly prepared, go to the top of the page again and hit the Composite tab.

  • On the next page fill in the following:

  • URL: Enter the URL of the image you want to put on top of the previous image.

  • Gravity - Location: If positioning is not critical, use the dropdown menu of locations for placement of the image to be composited. The menu positions are geographical: NorthWest, West, North, etc. For many compositing projects the Center position is selected on the dropdown.

If positioning is critical and regional placement by the dropdown menu selections is not adequate, select NorthWest on the pulldown menu and set the position co-ordinates for the right (first number) and down (second number). The co-ordinate numbers are always preceded by a + sign. The range limits of the co-ordinates are determined by the width and height of the base image.

For example, this would move it to the right 50 and down 100.

    +50+100

  • Compose: Scroll down to this pulldown and select Over. There are quite a few compositing function alternatives on the Compose dropdown, but Over is selected for most image-on-image jobs.

  • Next click where it says Press to (Composite) your image or (Reset) the form.

  • On the next page you will see your composited image. Go to the top of the screen and click on the Output tab.

  • On the next page fill in the following:

  • Format: put a checkmark next to gif or jpg.

If your composited image is static, click on the single file button.
If the composite is animated, click on the multi-frame file button.

  • Storage Type:

  • Click where it says Press to (output) your image or (reset) the form.

  • On the next page click on an image to get the URL so you can transload it to your homepage account.

How to Add and Remove Comments at ImageMagick

  • Comments are words, usually about copyright, that are in amongst the binary code of an image. Not all images have comments.

  • To check for comments, an image can be sourced using any code sourcer. The comments are usually at the top and/or bottom of the binary code.

  • Comments, if any, can also be seen at Image Magick.

  • Put the url of the image into the text field where it asks for the URL and click the view button.

  • The image is seen on the next page. Go to the top of the screen and click on the Identify tab.

  • Comments, if any, will be reported at or near the bottom of the long text block of information about the image

  • Comments can be stripped from images that are output at Image Magick. There is a checkbox control to do that as well as a textarea to add comments of your own.

  • Click the Output tab in the top menu array.

  • Fill in the following.

    Format: choose gif or jpg.

Storage type: click the single file radio button for still images or the multi-frame file button for animated gifs.

  • Then scroll down below the "Press to Output" button and see a textarea to add comments and a checkbox to strip comments.

  • Miscellaneous options:

Strip image of any comments or profiles.

When your own new comments are added, all pre-existing comments are removed. Do not reclick on the Identify tab for confirmation the comments are removed. It will likely still show them since they are in the Image Magick cache memory. For confirmation of the old comments removal, the new image file url can be re-input and viewed at Identify or sourced and checked as described above.

  • So if you are wish comments removed, check the box, output the image, and it is done automatically.

  • If you want to add your own comments, do so in the textarea and leave the "strip comments" box unclicked. Adding comments removes previous comments.

  • Finally scroll back up and click where it says Press to (output) your image or reset the form.

  • On the next page just click on the image and get the URL so you can transload it to your homepage account.
