Getting URLs for VidCap, JPG, and GIF Attachments

Image attachments on email or posts can be vidcaps, jpgs, or gifs, either visible or a clickable photoslide icon. It is possible to get an address, a url, for coding the attach- ment image in sigs or pages or to email or post as a clickable link.

If you are a WebTV Plus user and want to get urls for vidcaps you send to yourself then read this section of the tute.

Two ways of extracting transloadable urls for attachments are listed below. WebTV people most commonly use the Pagebuilder method. The Epson way is faster and easier. There is also a method using Fastmail detailed here.

I. The Scrapbook ~ Page Builder Method

The Steps

1. From your WebTV mail list page, open the email with the image attachment.

2. Check the sidebar menu and note the link for Scrapbook.

Email with an image attachment brings up the sidebar Scrapbook link only if activated by previously having published a Page Builder page.

3. Click the sidebar Scrapbook link and the attachment image is added to your Scrapbook.

4. Now in Scrapbook, the image must be added to a published Page Builder page. Then a url for the image can be gotten by entering the page url in an image extraction tool like my Page Builder Utility.

This guide provides complete instructions for adding a Scrapbook image to a published Page Builder page and then extracting the url.

II. The Epson Photo Method

Before signing up with Epson you should have an account with a web page host such as Angelfire and know how to transload.

This is a simple method. A disadvantage is that gif attachments are converted to jpgs by Epson. They can be converted back to gifs, if desired, by such image editing sites as Image Magick and MyImager. Animated gif attachments will be rendered static, however.

The Steps

1. Open an account at Epson Photo

2. Send direct or forward e-mails with image attachments to photos@photo.epson.com

3. Login to your Epson account and click the "Photo Inbox" link.

4. Scroll down and click on the thumbnail image.

5. Click on the full size image which opens on the next page.

6. The image will then be isolated. Get the url by clicking "Go To" and "Show Current" on the keyboard.

7. Highlight and copy the url and transload it using the Domania Freeloader.

VidCap Attachments We Send to Ourselves

Our WebTV email area is a convenient place to grab and attach a vidcap for our own use or to send to others. The Webtv Help Center provides information how to proceed.

ATTACH VIDCAPS TO E-MAIL

FOR MORE INFORMATION

    • Go to Mail List Page
    • Click "Help"
    • Click "Detailed instructions"
    • Click "Writing e-mail"
    • Click "Adding pictures to e-mail"

We can get urls for vidcaps we send to ourselves using the same methods described for attachments on email from others. But there are even easier methods to get a url for the vidcap.

Remote vidcap grabbers, like this one, provide a url for transloading instantly: Vid_Cap Tool. And the camcorder icon for grabbing vidcaps is integrated into Pagebuilder and about every homepage provider.

Using that, vidcaps can be grabbed inside Pagebuilder or any homepage server and directly loaded into our account. These direct methods are efficient when we plan to grab a number of vidcaps from a videotape, for example.
